Pranab Mukherjee is the 13th President of the country who has held office since July 2012. Prior to this, he has been active in politics for six decades and is considered a troubleshooter of Congress. 80-year-old Mukherjee served at different times as Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, Commerce Minister and Finance Minister. He is a rare person with unique experience in governance.

He was elected 5 times to the Rajya Sabha since 1969 and 2 times to the Lok Sabha in 2004. He was also a member of the Congress Working Committee which is the highest policy making party for 23 years.

He also created the Gadgil formula in 1991. His father was a Congressman. He had gone to jail many times. He received his master's degree in History, Political Science, Advocacy from Kolkata University.

He started his career as a college professor. Later also did journalism. Impressed by his colleagues, he entered politics. Parliament was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 1969. He soon got his political post extended under the leadership of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Between 1973 and 1974, he served as Deputy Minister, Minister of Industries, Minister of Vehicles and Transport, Minister of Steel Industries. Became Finance Minister for the first time in 1982. He was in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1985. Between 1991 and 1996, he was a foreign minister. Worked in the Department of Commerce between 1993 and 1995.

Between 2004 and 2006, he was the Minister of Defense. From 2006 to 2009, he became the External Affairs Minister again. From 2009 to 2012, he again became the Finance Minister. And was a member of the Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2012. Mr. Mukherjee became the Board of Governors of Imef World Bank, Asian Development Bank and African Development Bank.

He later handled the financial burden of the Commonwealth Game. He published a book about the Indian economy and national uplift and received many awards in his life. Padmabhushan received Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997, Best Person of India Award in 2008.

In 2013, received Doctor of Honor for Advocacy from University of Dhaka. He was also honored with Alcades University. He was called one of the world famous 5 Finance Ministers. By a survey of Euro Money General Publishers of New York in 1984. He received Asia's Finance Minister of the Year Award in 2010 from Emerging Market.

Pranab Mukherjee successfully led the country as the 13th Prime Minister from 2012 to 2017. He breathed his last on 31 August 2020 after a long illness. The cause of his death is said to be a lung infection, he was also placed on ventilator serpent in the last moments of his life.

According to doctors, he was in a coma since brain surgery. He was also treated for several days at the Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi. But during this period, his condition deteriorated continuously and he died at the age of 84 years.
